I thought I would share a few thoughts on Dr. Pedersen’s 8 Causes of Disease. Today I will cover the first one and comment.
Dr. Pedersen is a scientist with a degree in toxicology who worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a number of years before going into the field of sports medicine. He has formulated many natural products, testified before congress regarding infectious diseases and was directed by the office of the Vice President of the United States to come up with a step by step protocol for the treatment of TB.
He was also a major contributor to the research that led to finding a viable treatment for Malaria through the use of a highly specialized product called Silver Shield. In fact, the company who makes this product, Nature’s Sunshine Products, was donating a bottle of Silver Shield liquid for every bottle purchased for quite awhile. They found that 2 bottles of the Silver Shield liquid actually helped people completely overcome Malaria. They may still do this…I would not be surprised if they were still doing this even in this tough economy. Nature’s Sunshine Products has always been an outstanding company.
I have spoken with Dr. Pedersen on a number of occasions and heard him speak as well. I don’t necessarily agree with everything that he teaches but I think his 8 causes of disease deserve a good look.
So here goes…the first cause from his list:
1. Deficiencies
If you read my post a few days ago you can see my stance on the basic principles of why bodies start to break down into a state of “dis-ease.” I won’t rehash that long post but I will simply state that I believe maintaining a state of health comes down to keeping the internal environment of the body balanced and healthy. Read the post if you want any more explanation than that as I do not desire to take up any more space here to explain what it means.
My purpose for sharing Dr. Pedersen’s 8 causes of disease is to give a perspective as to why the internal environment breaks down and becomes imbalanced. As I said earlier…I don’t entirely agree with him on everything but please take a look at these causes and consider how they affect you and your life.
It is no wonder that deficiencies are at the top of the list with the eating habits of the normal person. Here are some interesting statistics that relate to this topic:
The increase in money spent on fast food since 1970 has gone up by about 22 times. Americans are now spending about 135 billion dollars/year on foods known to be deplete in all but the most basic nutrients. And, most fast food is filled with so many things that you do not want to put in your body it is almost frightening to think what actually takes place in the body when you eat it.
We Americans drink on average nearly 2 sodas per day, or almost 700 per year. This alone is about 7,000 teaspoons per year of sugar. Over half of Americans drink multiple cups of coffee every day…many of those people loading it up with sweeteners of one sort or another.
So…how does this relate to deficiencies?
Unfortunately…people fill themselves up with these types of foods and drinks and completely neglect the food and drink that would give them the nutrients they need to help them on the road to being healthy and balanced.
We will talk about the negative aspects in these foods etc. at a later time…but we must be clear that every food and every drink has a nutritional makeup that either provides adequate nutrition to the body or inadequate nutrition to the body. Unfortunately…even the foods that we may consider that give adequate nutrition to the body typically fall way short.
The truth of the matter is that our bodies are very complex organisms that operate on a level that requires…nutrition (of course), energy (both raw forms of energy and created energy), and more chemical reactions than we can fathom (unless of course you work for the federal government and you throw around dollars in the billions and trillions like it was child’s play).
There are plenty of things that take place within the human body that are a mystery to me but I do want to make it clear that if you do not provide the raw materials in the form of enzymes, co-enzymes (vitamins), minerals, amino acids and other forms of phytonutrients…then it is impossible for the body to keep up with the billions of chemical reactions needed to keep it well balanced and healthy.
It is because of these things that scientists, doctors, natural health practitioners and the like have focused on nutritional deficiencies so much. This is why the number 92% has been offered up for years. 92% of the foods we typically eat are lacking in basic nutrients that can keep you functioning at a minimal level. It is a serious issue. It takes these basic nutrients to run the body.
Let me be clear…the chances are very good you do not get enough basic nutrition in your diet. There are massive books written on this subject and we’ll cover more about nutrients at other times but if you simply focused on this one thing would you become healthy? If you were, by some miracle, able to find the best organically grown perfectly balanced food and consumed only that…would you be healthy?
The answer is…probably not. You could be…but only if other things were in place as well.
If we are simply talking about nutrients…even in the world of raw foods there are very few foods that carry a full compliment of nutrition any more. For generations now the foods we grow have become less energetically viable than they used to be. What I mean by this is that the seeds to start these foods and the soil itself (not the nutritional makeup of the soil) lack the energy to create high powered foods in general. (We do not have time to delve into this concept right now…but every viable and living thing has the ability to draw energy into itself to one degree or another…some of this is being lost). I contend that even foods grown under the best conditions cannot produce a full compliment of nutrients as their predecessors did. But this isn’t the whole story. There are other deficiencies that are just as critical if not more so. Dr. Pedersen talks about deficiencies to mean nutritional deficiencies…but I think we need to take it a step or two further to be able to see a broader perspective of what is happening in our society and culture.
It takes more than nutrition to create a balanced and healthy body. It is clear to most people if they consider it long enough that every thought that you have, every word that you utter, every sound that you hear, every thing that you see, and every environment that you are in affects you in one way or another.
What most people never consider, however, is that the combination of every one of those things mentioned in the previous paragraph in any given situation at any given moment in time creates a response within our minds, bodies and emotions. Chemical reactions are triggered by stimuli that we would never consider under normal circumstances.
For instance…you wake up in the morning to the smell of your favorite foods and your spouse is smiling at you in glee as if you are the delight of his/her soul as you walk into the room…what do you think happens inside the body?
The “energy” of the situation triggers multiple reactions within the body. “Good health” comes in a moment like this. It is well documented that when the sick are prayed for…they are more likely to get well. I don’t care what you believe about God but the positive energy created through people praying for someone helps to promote health within the body of the one being prayed for. Is it enough? Sometimes…but even if it is not…it always helps!
Most people who spend time outdoors around life…especially lots and lots of wild trees, shrubs, flowers and other plants tend to be healthier. It doesn’t even matter if they consume these things or not. Just being around life gives you energy and better health.
You can talk about the law of attraction and so forth but I believe there are much more basic things happening than that. That is…in general…life begets life. Those things that bring life to a human body and soul tend to encourage life to grow.
Whether they be living nutrients or energies such as love and laughter, the feeling of beauty in the mountains or the sense of awe standing in front of waves pounding on a beach or whatever…the life in these things creates life within our bodies.
Did you know that a negative thought sets off a cascade of predominantly negative reactions within the body bringing stress and imbalance. Imagine what a whole string of negative thoughts and emotions can do day in and day out.
The Bible says that laughter brings health to the body (check out my video on what not to do in network marketing to have a laugh or two). Why? Because just as a negative thought brings a form of death…a positive thought brings life.
Why do I bring all of these things up?
The deficiencies we are experiencing that bring so many people ill health include nutritional deficiencies for sure…but they also include deficiencies in love, laughter, hope, faith, positive external energies from the environment that we live in, positive thoughts, a general positive outlook on life and a severe deficiency of the appreciation of life itself.
We are also deficient in pure clean water, in sleep, in activity, in hard work with your hands and on and on it goes. There are more…but I believe that is enough to get my point across.
You can have a perfect nutritionally balanced diet and still be completely unhealthy in your physical body. I have been talking about finding what it means to live a balanced life for many years now. It is very difficult in our day and age but as things become more stressed and pressured it becomes even more difficult to stay healthy and thus more important to realize where your personal deficiencies lie and then learn how to correct them.
I have simply given you some ideas as to where people are deficient in general. It is very important to realize where your deficiencies lie or else there is no way to correct them. The results…sickness, ill-health and disease…not only in our bodies but our souls as well.
If you have appreciated this post please pass it on…tweet it, share it, digg it…whatever makes you happy. Thank you very much for being a part of the conversation as well.
