The Amazing Power of a Tribe

I have a soccer team that plays in the over 40 division in Sacramento. Our team is called Capital United FC (FC stands for football club…a general classification in the world of soccer). I started it in the fall and we had a rough start the first half of our first season.

In fact…if I were to think about it too much I might just get a bit depressed (not really but we had a very bad start). However, the second half of the season was a great deal different. We actually won 80% of our games in the second half of the season after losing 100% of our games the first half.

So…we were anticipating a good start to this winter/spring season. Well…yesterday we had our first game and we did not do so well. Boy am I feeling it today. I gave it my all…to the point where my calves were cramping up and I couldn't run any longer.

It has been years since I have had any cramping like that so I know I gave all I could give and my body was telling me I had reached my limit.

I have been thinking today about that game and I have come to some conclusions that are important to your success in any area of life.

When we were warming up for the game yesterday and my teammates were filtering in we received the bad news that two of our key players could only play on a very limited basis. In fact, out of a possible 180 minutes of playing time between the two of them we may have got 15-20 minutes out of them…they were not quality minutes either.

I actually felt bad about that as I saw how even playing that much time affected how they were feeling. One of them had a knee injury and the other was just ill. Both left worse off…not good!

Anyhow, we already had two other key players not able to come at all…plus, another one of our better players was running very late (he ended up missing the first 30 minutes or so). We have seven players who are pretty good on the field with a very good goal keeper…which makes 8.

We ended up playing the majority of the game with just 2 or 3 of our best players on the field (not counting our goal keeper). We worked as hard as we possibly could but just could not compensate for the lack of our team members.

As I said earlier…I gave all I had. I was spent and I am very much feeling it today. I had a very good game personally. I did a heel flick into the goal off of a free kick my teammate took. I had a great cross in the air right into the middle of the box but my teammate missed the opportunity. I had another perfect through ball (right through the defense) to set up my teammate but he was not able to do anything with it. I had another perfect pass that curved behind the defense but in front of the goal right at another teammate's feet and he missed it. I saved what looked like a sure goal by sprinting back to tackle the ball away from the other team's main goal scorer as he was clear and about to shoot (he had beat all of our defenders). I had a near perfect free kick right to my team member who was in front of the goal and not able to do anything with it. All in all I had a very solid game with a great deal of effort put forth.

My point is not to list my accomplishments but to show that no matter how well I did and how hard I worked…I could not pull it off by myself. My two other teammates were doing the same but with only 25-30% of our best players on the field we simply did not have the ability to win the game.

This is not just true in sports…it is also very true in my internet marketing business. On my own, no matter how hard I work…no matter how hard I try, I cannot accomplish the success that I truly want. However, together with my tribe members and other friends in the business we are all creating a team and building a momentum that will soon be sweeping across the internet…and everyone is experiencing success that they could not have possibly experienced on their own.

The second half of this is that you need to partner with quality people. In my game we had eleven on the field (all fantastic guys) but only 3 or 4 who were really quality players. As much as the other guys wanted to win…collectively we just didn't have the ability to do so. These other guys (no matter how wonderful they are as people) could not contribute the type of quality play that we were missing by having our other team members not available to play.

My internet marketing core tribe is called the Daily Crushers. If you spend any time on Twitter you will have seen the #DailyCrushers sign popping up. Add this group to your tweetdeck (or whatever you use) and follow what this amazing group of people is up to. You will not only learn a ton but you may even get caught up in the momentum along with us. We may even ask you to join us.

These are quality individuals who contribute a ton to the group as a whole. Not everyone is in the same place but everyone has made a commitment to work extremely hard and contribute to the tribe's success. We all have a tremendous amount to bring to the table and we are creating a massive amount of energy that is in the beginning stages of growing into something very special and large.

If you want to win this game, you need a team (tribe) to do so. Just as in my soccer game yesterday where I was not able to accomplish the win simply by playing a great game myself, so I cannot accomplish the massive amounts of success that I am working for in marketing without partnering up and actively participating in a tribe.

Please take this message to heart…join a tribe, start a tribe, find a tribe…whatever…just do it if you truly want to accomplish what is your heart's desire (that is if you want to be massively successful—that translates into making large sums of money while helping others do the same). And…if you want to be considered to be a part of the Daily Crushers please retweet this post and add #DailyCrushers with your RT.

For everyone else…please RT for the content and share on FB and Digg. Thanks…comments are appreciated.
